NVIDIA revealed the news at a conference. The data center and AI server space has been accelerating the pace of liquid cooling, with companies investing heavily in manufacturing plants for liquid cooling equipment. In addition, liquid cooling data centers will require a lot of R&D work and sufficient infrastructure to maintain.

The use of liquid cooling in data centers is a growing trend. The benefits of liquid cooling, such as higher performance and lower energy costs, are becoming increasingly important as the demand for AI applications continues to grow. However, the high construction cost and maintenance complexity of liquid cooling systems remain a challenge.

However, Patrick Moorhead, founder, CEO and chief analyst of Moor Insights & Strategy, makes an interesting point: we’ve used just about every lever to optimize performance at reasonable thermal/power levels to date: node shrink, chiplet design, and packaging. What’s next, liquid nitrogen? Optical packaging? A shift to ASIC hardware? Faster networks? It seems like we need to hit a reset button on something when we hit a wall.
